WEEK IN REVIEW

Can we say pool anyone? That is all we did this weekend. I went with the girls Friday for 3 hours. They behaved themselves, so I could handle it alone. ;) Then we returned to the pool both Saturday and Sunday. The moronic weathermen were saying rain all weekend. Well, the first few drops of rain might be in a few minutes now. Glad I didn't decide to stay home. From now on, I am going to plan on exactly the opposite of what they predict! There were a lot of fellow classmates at the pool for Madeline to play with this weekend. Meredith preferred to perfect her jumping in and swimming to me over socializing. Preschool will be good for her!
Saturday night we had our neighbor boy's birthday party to attend. It was sooo hot, but the kids found a way to cool off ... throwing ice from the coolers up in the air, into their shirts, and yes a few times in their underwear (GROSS!). They had such a good time. They were zombie-like when we took them home for bed. Matt on the other hand, had a 5k Twilight Race to run. He said that it was a lot of fun!!! It was so popular in fact, that they ran out of t-shirts and numbers to hand out! Who knew?!? Apparently there was even a graduation party along the path with people cheering them on. How funny.
My highlight was being able to video-chat with Mindy and meeting LYLA! She looks so cute, but sleepy! Can't wait to meet her in 2 weeks.

Lyla Betty Ross

Lyla Betty Ross
June 22, 2010, 9:11pm
7 pounds, 11 ounces
21 inches

Dave is holding Lyla and I thought I'd use the calm moment to write a quick blog update about our new little girl...

LABOR/DELIVERY
I arrived to the hospital around 6:30pm. Once we got situated in our labor/delivery room, I was able to get my epidural (8:30pm). You can imagine how surprised the nurse was when she checked me a few minutes after 9 and found that I was completely dilated. Lyla decided to show us who's boss and her heart rate dropped significantly. The next few minutes were FAST and a little SCARY. The dr said I needed to get the baby out in 2 contractions and for me to push as hard as I could. She used a vacuum to help...and with the first contraction, out came her head...and with the next - she was here!!!! The cord was around her neck, so Dave didn't get to cut it this time...but he did get to announce that "IT'S A GIRL!" which was a great moment for me. I couldn't believe it - EDWIN WAS RIGHT!!! He got a sister and I got a little girl!!!! YAY!!!!!

RECOVERY
Recovery has been great so far. We are learning the differences between boys/girls. I'm ready to come home...so hopefully tomorrow we'll be discharged and start our new adventure as a family of 4.

NAME
We've been asked where her name came from...Dave and I both really like the name Lyla and Betty is after my grandmother, who I hope she'll get a chance to meet soon!

EDWIN
How is Edwin doing? Well - he met Lyla today and wasn't too interested. He was more interested in "fixing" the hospital room - he brought a hammer and screwdriver with him today! He did pause for a minute to hold her hand, touch her toes, and tell me that Baby Lyla will sleep in his old bed. We'll see how he does when we actually bring her home!!!!! I think he's going to be a great older brother!

THANK YOUs
Finally - special thanks to everyone who helped make this a smooth delivery process. I don't know what I would've done if I would've been nervous about Edwin - but I knew he was and is in good hands while we are here...Drew and Anita - what can I say...you've really helped us during this whole pregnancy and now we will be able to ask you all of the girl information and share all of our boy insights as you get ready to welcome your little one in October! AJ - thanks for coming down and helping with Edwin while we were hard at work getting Lyla here! Grandma Ross - you have already been such a blessing to us and we are so thrilled that you will be staying for a while to help with this transition! Thanks to all of our early visitors - Lyla is ready for the pink explosion to begin...I on the other hand am excited to go shopping for some girl clothes!! haha

More to come...

38 weeks - why not go to the pool?

Since we thought for sure Baby Ross #2 would come this weekend, we sent Edwin to Grandma Nikki's and Sedona to Grandpa Randy's...but alas - NO BABY!!! So, Grandpa still has Sedona (THANK YOU!!!!) and Edwin is back home with us. It is unreal how much I missed him...can't believe he won't be my ONLY baby soon. Edwin had a good time as usual at Grandma Nikki's...I'm so thankful that he loves going there...it is so great to have such helpful family so close!

This was Dave's 3rd Father's Day...and I tried my best to give him a HUGE reason to celebrate. I walked on the treadmill this weekend, ate strange food (including Thai), and nested all weekend...but nothing worked! We had a great time celebrating today. Nothing crazy...just spending time together and with Edwin was PERFECT!

Who am I kidding - go to the pool? If you know me at all, then you know that I'm not a fan of swimming on a good day - so me at 38 weeks going to a pool? I don't think so...however, I was able to make Edwin a VERY HAPPY little man today and we celebrated Father's Day at Grandpa Randy's house playing in his shark pool. What a difference a year can make. We got him this pool for his 1-year birthday and he just sat there...this year he was climbing in and out, jumping, splashing, sticking his head in the waterfall, etc. So much fun. After pool time, we went out to dinner…AJ joined us. After we ate, AJ played some games with Edwin – he won some smarties and was so excited to eat them with AJ. Too fun!

Here's hoping Baby #2 decides to come soon...I'm so anxious to know if it is a boy or girl...
