Early May

The 1st full weekend in May is always an eventful one in these parts as Saturday brings the Kentucky Derby down in Louisville, and Sunday brings the Flying Pig Marathon here in Cincy.

There's just something about Derby Day . The air is filled with excitement (and--since private property is still respected in Northern KY--smoke) as everyone hopes his or her horse is a winner. If you had Mine That Bird, who went off at 50-1, then congrats. Pioneer of the Nile, 1 of the horses I had in my 4-horse $1 box trifecta, finished 2nd. Unfortunately, another finished 4th, and the others are still running I think.

On Sunday the fam walked down to the river and across the PPB to catch a glimpse of the too-many-to-mention friends and co-workers complete the full- and half-marathon. From our spot just before the mile 26 marker, Mindy and I yelled words of encouragement to all the runners while Edwin slept. Here's a pic of Mindy and Edwin before he fell asleep:

Congrats to all runners. If you know of anyone who ran the Pig, you can check the results here. And if you're ever in Cincy in May and are in need of a little inspiration/motivation, I strongly recommend coming downtown and watching these runners (this year measuring in the tens of thousands) exhaust every last ounce of energy to meet a personal goal.
